Capitol Hill to Magnuson Park
This ride takes you past the University of Washington Campus and through some of Seattle’s lushest areas of the Burke-Gilman Trail. This is a perfect ride for an Autumn Saturday morning where you can take a detour to the U-District Farmers Market or a Spring afternoon when the cherry blossoms are out in the UW Quad.
16.4 mile ride roundtrip with one steep climb. For full directions you can check out the Google Route here.
Tips & Tricks:
- Follow the first exit after the University (Eastlake) Bridge, it will be a hard curve to your right. At the bottom, the left lane becomes the trail.
- There are plenty of entrances along the Burke Gilman for users around the UW.
- Watch for 65th Street as there is no signage pointing toward Magnuson Park.
- On your return make sure to have directions solid. These roads climb quick and dead end often.
- E Interlaken Blvd is steep, but I take this climb on a 10-speed hybrid from the 80s. The ride is super green and I feel like a badass after.
Places to Stop - Along the Trail:
- Counterbalance Bicycles - Full of beautiful bikes, most hanging from the ceilings, you can’t miss the mural on your way.
- Zoka Coffee - Great coffee and snacks, refuel.
- University District Farmers Market - One of the best in Seattle, Saturday 9am-2pm.
- Cherry Blossoms and University of Washington Campus - Amazing architecture and cherry blossoms in the spring.
- Magnuson Park - Mt. Rainier views, Lake Washington Access and a series of pathways.
